BROKERS' REPORTS

Successful Saies Recorded ALMOST TOTAL" CLEARANCES The various selling brokers report having held successful saies, a feature ! being the almpst total cleurances under the hammer recorded in all cases. They report individually as follows upon the sale and give detailed prices received by their clients: WTTiTITAMS AND KETTLE LTD. Williams and Kettle td., report having held the third wool sale of the sea"son yeSterday. Out of a total offering of 30,397 "bales our catalogue comprised 7;832 bales. The wbols on offer were, generally speakiug, better than usually offered at this time' of the year, several super coast clips, which had not reacbed Napier in time for the January sale, being on offer. Taking the last sale fcoro s* xguide, prices for halfbredsy Southdowns and other fine wools showed a considerable drop. Medium and coaise crossbreds registered a decline, but not ea pronounced. Lfemba.' wools weie deffnxtely cheaper, while' ,pieses Dthd bellies ete. ehowed very little change, , The eompetition was active and well spread. Continental operators took a most *prominent part and lifted a conBiderable weight of wool.. They were particularly active as far as lambs, pieees and bellies were concerned, and also purchased a fair quantity of flefece which.. was suitable for their requirements. : Bradford buyers made their weight felt and purchased a bigger proportion of wool than they had done previously. Japan and America were not such powerful factors aa they were edflier in -the season. Although growers were prepared'fOr | a considerable drop in values, the sale was better than was anticipated, and priceb -obtained to-day were in our opin* ion from Jd to 5d better than recent quotations. the n.z. loan mercantile The third wool sale was held in. the Drill Hall yesterday when a total catalogue of 30,997 bales was submitted to a full and representative bench of buyers, our quota being 3647 bales. From the outset it was apparent that eompetition was much keener and better spread than at any previous auction this season. At the previous sale at this centre the Continent, U.S.A. and Canada dominated the position ,but at to-day 's sale the Continent and Bradford were the principal operators, with U.S.A. and Japan pidking up suitable lots. The wool opened up in good eondi- , tion bnt it did not compare with the offering at the previous sale, it beiug average to good top making wools with occasiopal .guper . lots. Comparing prices with thosp ruling at the previous auction last wee.k they can be . quoted very firm, Bellies nnd pieces, of. which there was a lftrge entr'y elicited keen eompetition, the bulk going to France. Lambs wool was jrregular but unfprtun^tely most pf the lines pn offer CPUtained more or less seed, as. pwing to weather conditions, farmers were unable tq' shear -earlier, and prices for these are slightly easier. We are pleaeed to report we made a total elearance of our catalogue at prices satisfactory tp our clients. Continental operators were prominent in the bidding and Bradford appeared to have re-emered our market more freely than seems to have been 'the case at recent saies elsewnere. U.S.A. and Qanada were keen af'ter coarse types and these realised relatively higher rates thkn fine wools did. dap-. anese interests were represented, but the extent of purchases ' on their account was not comparable with that of the December saies. Dominion mills were also most useful bidders for their special types. The display of wool on our show floor was not so good as that for the December and January sale, which had inclnded a fnirly large percentage of early shorn hogget and dry sheep- wopls, Yesterday 's offering consisted mostly of later shorn ewe wool cai'rying increased condition, and hot so soft handling or so attractive-looking. A number of really good clips were included, but the bulk was ohly ■ of fair ro average types, lacking in bloom and inclined to be.harsh. The bidding was weU spread, and values for " medium and coarse woois were slightly up on the December sale, while coarse Lincoln and low crossbred made up tp par on the January sqle. On the whqle "prices were acceptable to growers and we'quitted 97 pe'r cent. of our offer ing nt auction. • ■ . . The hignpst price realised. rn pur catalogue for lambs ' wool was for a linc of ihe- Roydon brand, on account of Mr, H. G. DALCETY AND CO., LTD. Dalgety and Ooi., Ltd., report ast follo'ws: — The third Napier wool sale was held yesterday, when brokers offered a total of 30,200 baies. The seiection was well beiow the standafd of the first two saies, the majority of the wpoi, being heavier in conoruon aua ihuch 'duiier xn appearance. Yery iewsuper wools suitauie for spianera were mciude'd in our catalogue of 4579 bales. The bulk of the offering consisted of average to good top-maJsing sorbs, Before this sale there was a generai teeimg that the marhet wouid ue consideraoly weaker, but fortunately the result was much better than anucipated, and we consider prices were aoout 3d ^o 3d per 10. nigher than recent quotations. ■The .biading wa«j deeidedly keen, and it was obyious that the trade was stiii very anxions to buy wool at limits. The. Contruent were the. principai operators, these buyere bidduig more treeiy than at any other sale. Aiuerica, Oauu.da, /apan and Bradfora wero also operating fairly extensiveiy. .. Thq maru feature of tne sale was again the remarkable prices paid for coarse wools suitable for the carpet trade. These wools continue to -mahe more money than medium to fine crossbreds, especially if they show signs oi being well-bred and approaching Lincoln . type. For iustance, in oue clip bred along these lines 163d was ob; tained for the A hogget for 52 's quality,, whereas Lincoln-cross for 40 's quality Made I4d. Necks, pieces and bellies, are still selling • better thqn fieCce wools when taken on a clean'scoured b'asis. Lambs' wool, pf which 'there1 was a fair supply offering, sold well with keen competition fropi French, - Australian, and New Zealand. mills, good to super realising from 170 to' 18d. c li Although yesterday 's market was ceritainly down on the remarkable sale in January, prices are still very satjsfaetory, and we think growers are very wise to have met the market so readily. We passed in 33 bales under 'the hammer, bnt fhese wero sold imniedi-
