Centre Championships The Hawke's Bay-Poverty Bay centr© athletio championships for. 1937 will be held on McLean Park, Napier, on, Saturday next, February 26, both iu the afternoon and evenina- This is always the big athletio event of the year as far as this district is concerned, and coming, as it does, two- weeks before the New Zealand championships at Auckland it forme a pretty reliable gqide to local prospects at that meeting. At Saturday's meeting over 300 athletes wili be competing, and these will j include no fewer than five New Zealand champions, eo that it will ba seen that patrons will hav© an opportunity pf witnessing stirring struggles between. some of New Zealand' s best ath- | letes. Tho contest between Fitzsimmons j and G. Quinn, two of th® best sprinters in the Hominion, in the 100 yards event, is Iikely to provide an epic struggle. The team to repre&ent the centr© at the New Zealand championships will be chosen after the raeeting. Tb© afternoon session will comraence at 2 p.m, and the eveningj session at 7.15 o'clock.
