(Recexyed 25, 8,45 a.m.) I RUGBY, Feb, 33.
An emergency fire brigads' organisa;tion agamst air attack with incendiary ■bombs was the subject of a statement jby the Home Secretary in the Hqu.se iof Commons. The? orgahisatiqn suggest-. ed will involve the aceumulation in. peace time of large stoeks of emergency fire-fighting appliances, including highpower pumping engines and trailer. pumps, together with hose and other; equipment. . It would also be necessary to prepare, in advance for the establishment qf| emergency fire stations and a system of! patrol nnits and firq posts to keep all streets under frequent obsexvation and' to be in a position to attack incipient; fires without delay. Por these purposes; ja large number of auxiliary personnel; :would be required to be trained in peace time with a view to wholetime or part-time servic© with fire brigades in. an emergency. The Government was considering repjesentations from local authorities as to the incidence of the cost of any necessary fire preeautions and emergency! fire brigades. Pending a decision on this question, the Government was nndertaking to provide in kind approved types of appliances with hose and equipment up to a proportion of the local authorities' requirements nnder approved local emergency sehemes. Grants would be made towards the. cost of the initial training and equipment of auxiliary personnel. Local management would remain, but there was in preparation a system of regiqnai organisation which wonld tend to bring about co-qperation between local authorities.
