RULE BY REVELATION.
"There ara two hinds of dictatorw— tho ohieftain type and the znedioine man type. Hitler is the iatter. He is a medinm, German polioy is not made; it is revealed through Hitler. He is the mouthpieoe of the gods as of old. He says the word whioh expresses everybody^s resentmsnt. I remember a medicine man in Afriea who said to me almost with tears in his eyes : ' We have no dreams any more shice ihe British are m the country.' When I asked him why, he answered ; ' The Distriot Commissioner knows everything." " Mussolim, Stalin, and Roosevelt rule like that, but in Germany they still have ' dreams.' You remember the story of how, when Hitler was being pressed by other Powers not to withdraw Germany from the League of Nation*, he shut himself away foir three days, and then simply said without explanation: * Germany must withdraw 1' That is rule by revelation. Hence the sensitiveness of Germans to criticism or abuee of tbeir leader. It is blasphemy to them, for Hitler is the Sybfl, the Delphio oraole. "After the diotatorst Oligarchy in some form. A deeent oligarohy-r-call it aristqqracy if you like— is the most ideal form o£ government. It depends on the quality of the nation whether they evolve a decent oligarchy or not. I am sure that Russia will, but Germany and Italy have a chance. Without the aristocratie ideal there is no stability. You in England owe it to the ' gentlemen ' that you possess the world.'WDr. C. G. Jung in the Observer (London).
