Now they have got whai they dreamed about. "Napier ia the one town in' New Zealand that has features quite distinetive," Mr Barton added, "i'm quite sure the development of the Marino Parade is one of the best assets the town has. I was in Austraiia and the Diitch East Indies last year, and soverai timea people, knowing that 1 came from New Ze&jand, told me that they had been advised not .to miss Napier if .ever they took a trip to New Zealand. "It is my opinion that this geheration in Napier has only started what the next generation will complete. In the future years I expect the Marine Parade garden scheme will extend almost to the Breakwater and far along the beach in a southerly direction." So far as the Tom Parker Fountain was concerned, Mr Barton was loud i,n his praises of it and of the generosity of Mr Parker. He said he had seen similar fountains in Spain and Batavia, and he thought it delightful to come back and see such a fountain in Napier, made available through the generosity of a public-minded citizen.
