Sir, — Does it never oecnr to the chariipions of Dr. J. Allan Betrjr thqt xio^bn® iu tliiB wotld is iildis{>Gii8able. I had the misfortuhe to «pehd sbven weeks in the Napier Hospital dul'ing Dr. J. Allan Berry 's term as superintehdent. tfalk about "rafferty rules," and it was before the big inquiry, tbo. jf course, we common people oiily hehr the outside of things. It would nbt be sensible to let ns knqw too much. We are eo ignorant. ybu seo. I even read a few evenings ago of Napier parents and solicitors, I think that if an inquiry was necesgary ahd Dr. J, " Allan Betry did not like to give evidence it shows which way the wind blows, Who is he, anyHow? All the fulsome adjebtives of his admiters, per medium of ydur columnB, do not help him in tHe least. The qhicker Dr. J. Allan Bferry ls off the Hoppital Board the better pleased will his critics bq. With (accordihg |o his admirets) the multituaes whq gre dejendent upon hi» marvellquji skill, etc.', he has surely enough to do' When Dr, J. Allan Berry is off tho board there will be a chance of the meetings bbing conducted with an (vbsence of strife. Meanwhilb the bicker ing, spoilt-child condtict continuea. — * Yours ' etc..

Sir, — It seems to me that the treatment meted out to Dr. Allan Berry is another instance of thihgs not being valued unleSs paid for. As hoiiorary surgeon to the Napier Hospital Dr. Berry haa given gratuitpusly and unstintingly the fruits of his greqt ability ahd wide expefiehce. As "F.A.8." remarks in his letter in yqur issue of Saturday, Dr, Berry mqy have refused to give evidence, but he has never refused his medical services. There can be no doubt that the losa of Dr. Berry 's services would be catastrophic to the Napier Hospital. That every effort must be mad© to j retain Dr. Betr^'s services is, I ani Bute, the rifm opihion of very many besides — Yourk, etc..
