Napier Hospital Affairs

ANOTHER

EX-PATIENT.

RATEPAYER,

(To the Editor.) Sir,— As one who has so wondrously beneflted by the marvelloiisly clever and dexerous surgical skill of Er. Allan Berry, I am desirous, through your columns, to pay tribute to him. Any just person, conversant with Dr. Berry 's surgical skill, his keen intuition as a d^agnostican, combined with his gentle patience, kindliness and consideration, could not bu.tr feel "pained" over the treatment he has received. Truly, he has done infinitely more for the hospital than anyone else, and his withdrawal as honorary surgeon would be an unspeakable loss to suffering humanity, not only in Hawke's Bay, but also to those who come to him from much further afield, In addition to all this, Dr. Berry has a duty to ihe electors who voted him to the Board by such a substantial majority (500 add), and it is up to him not to resign, but to retain that post. Such personal feeling as that so palpably shown in the Board 's action refleets adversely on those concerned, and is no credit to any town. "Fair Play is Bonny Play." Thanking you for yoiir valuable STiap.ft. 3 V nnra a+n

Napier, Feb. 20, 1937. i I mltoii Sir,— I sincerely hope the people of Hawke's Bay will rise up in wrath at the dismissal of Dr. J. Allen Berry from. the Napier Hospital. He has worked unceasingly 14 years for thp people of this district, many thousands have cause to be thankful to him. We are extremely fortunate to have such a skilful surgeon and able man to help Us when we are 111. Until Mr. Lassen became chairman of the Hospital Board many people in Napier had never heard his name, but f there are very few people in Hawke's Bay and much further afield, who do not know Dr. Berry 's worth. I would be pleased to know what Mr. Lassen has done for us and why he has the power to dismiss such a very valuable man. Surely there is something wrong with the way our hospitals are run. If Dr. Berry refused to give evidence at an inquiry I am aute he had a very good reason for it, and I think there should be the fullest inquiry into this matter. I also think the Mayor of Napier should help all he can to have Dr, Berry reinstated immediately. Yours, etc.,

Napier, Feb. 21, 1937,
