Auckland's Noted Walker.
One of Auckland's most promising athietes, N.-McCarthy, who was a strong contender for the provincial walklbg titles this season, left Auckland recently to take up a position iri Wellington. One of the most stylish walkbrs the province has produced, McCarthy flrst became promineiit when he waiked from Auckland to Wellington in 1932 In record timo and since then he has won numerous track walking events; In view of the fine form he haS been dlsplaying this year, McCarthy was considered to have excellent prospects 6f eapturlng the prcvinclal championships. He did not compete last year, owirtg to an attack of appendicitis a few days before the sports. He will be eligible to compete in the Wellington meeting, howevei*, and intends to return to Auckland for the national championships on Mar-:h 12 and 13.
