IS £50 ENOUGH?
Coronation Day Fireworks in Napier COUNCIL'S DISCUSSION Whether £50 would buy sufficient fireworks fittingly to celebrate Coronation Day was a subject which. gave rise to some discussion at the general meeting last night of th*e Napier Borough Council. It was agreed. to defer the matter until it was found what quantity of fireworks £50 would buy. The discussion was opened by Mr A. C. B. Biggs, who suggested that it £50 were uot enough it would be better to spend £100 or nothing. Mr A. H. D. Mayne: Wo oftefi get enough fireworks at the meeting. Should we refer it to the Hospital Board? Mr Biggs: Personally I am all in favour \of fireworks, as Mr Mayne: They clear the air. Mr Biggs: But £50 is very little, and it is just a quedtion whether, if we car.-'t go further, we should start at all. Mr C. D. Cox: Can't we get a Government subsidy? ' The Mayor, Mr C. O. Morse: No. The Town Clerk, Mr P. E. Watters. I have written to s£e how much can be obtained for £50. Mr Morse: The display we had for the jubilee celebrations cost about £50, and it was a very good one. Mr Biggs: What aid the one for tho New Napier celebrations cost? Mr W. D. Corbett (borough engineer): More like £10C» Mr Biggs: That was worth while. It was finally decided to hold the matter in abeyance until some idea of the auiount of fireworks that could be obtained for £50 was obtained.
