Alleged Rudeness to Women COUNCIL TO INVESTIGATE Operating in Napier at the present time is. an itinerant trader in carpets who, if he has no hawking licence, will have to answer to the Borough Council. The couneil is at present viewing his aci,tivities with disfavOur because, it was alleged at last night 's meeting, he has been guilty of rut^enees when caiiing upon womenfolk. Eollowing a discussion opened by Mr C. D. Cox, the Town Olerk, Mr E. E. Watters, was instructed to ascertain whether the person concerned has a licence. "This man has been wandering round Napier as an itinefant carpet seller during tha past few dayei" said Mr Cox. "He has been rather insultiug to the womenfolk. If he hasn't paid his licence fee, I don't think we should take him on. Erom what I hear pf him, he;s a ' hummer. 3 " , The Mayor, Mr C. O. Morse: You think, then, that he should be put on the carpet. Mr Cox: Yes. They say he's most rude to the women. Mr E. Williams: Yes, he is. Mr Morse: Very well, Mr Watters, we '11 leave it to you tp see. whether he has taken out his licence to go around like this.
