CLUB SWIMMING
Napier Club Wins Herald Cup SOME DISQUALIFICATIONS The Napier Swimmingi Club annexed the Hawke's Bay Herald Cup for the 1936-37 season at the second and final eeries, held at the Napier Municipal Baths on Saturday, scoring in all 179 points to the 110 by the Te Awa Swimming Club. Races for the cup are run for first, second and third of five, three on the championship basis, with points and two respectively. The water and the weather were both very cold. and this was reflocted in the poor attendance and entries at the meeting. Races were run ofE promptly and some interesting finishes were witnessed. Following the disqualification of several junior swimmers in the breaststroke races at the Hawke's Bay clampioqships last week, offieials maintaii.ed strict supervision over this type of race on Saturday, with the result that two com,;etitors in the senior women s breaststroke were also disqualii *d. A tendency has grown on the sw niLiors of late, with less careful refer jeing- of .ac.'rs, f'i'" them to "dip"' m the water and not swim squarely ;.s laid down s in the xules. It is hoped that >wimuH'is* who have unconseiously acquired this' fault will correct it. A burleusque turn of the evening was the demonstration by three anouymous swimmers of what they termed "Russian life-saving." Their methods wero certainly not identifical with those do monstrated by the visiting Australian surf team, but they provided aiuuse ment for the spectators, espccially as the patient was the (irst out of th» water unaided Results — 66 2-3 yards junior boys. — ,3.
