New Zealand Zeal Praised in Victoria FINE RESEARCH WORK f 'MELBOURNE, Feb 11. ' ■ New Zealand's' advances in methods jof production, and particularly its zeal iin applying science to agriculture, imipressed the assistant-Minister for Agriculture, Mr . Hyland, and the Director jof Agriculture, Mr BL A. Mullet, who •retnrned to Melbourne this week after |a visit to the Dominion, Every ecientific aid posaible was ■made available'to farmers in New Zealand, said Mr Mullett. Tha Department io£ Agriculture whs splendidly equipped •for that purpoae. In. each district there was an agricultural adviser, often with |an assistant. The staff of advisers numbered 37 and provided a serviee that had no counterpart in Victoria. The dairying industry in New Zealiand was eonducted on a particularly jhigh plane. It produced eonsistently ,good butter and the industry was well equipped for xesearch. The research institute at Massey College eonducted classes for butter factory operators. The course oecupied 12 weeks in each; of three successive years, and was held in the "flat" factory season. The Wheat Research Institute inj Oanterbury had given vslu&ble serviee , to growers, millers and bakers, Mr Mullett said. A laboratory had been established in Vietoria te de aimilar work. A striiang illuatration of the advance made in New Zealand farming . was the high carrying eapacity of land, , particularly in the North Iflland. The ' Dominion had adopted rotational grazing very extensively. The system was only in its infahcy in Victoria. " •
