Items Discussed by Progress League CARE OF RESlRVES Tbe reconstruction of the Hastings and District Progress League ' wa» briefly discussed t at, the meeting of the executive on Thursday night when it was agreed .that a special meeting be held to bring about several changes which, if given effect to, are contended would be beneficial to the league and to the community. Those present were Messrs A. I. Rainbow (chairman), A. F, Regrave, W. E. Bate, -and L. J. Fisher, the ttev. D. J. Shaw and Mrs S. Jones. Mention was made of the chairman's remarks wben accepting office as president that he considered there was need for tbe strengthening of the numerical strength of tbe executive with the objective of appointing committees to go into the various piiases of the ieague's activities. After a brief discussion, it was decided to make arrangements for the holding of a special meeting to consider the matter and a detailed report of the proposed changes is to -be prepared. Support.to the.representations being made by the Hastings Chamber of Commerce to have th© Hastings Post Office regraded as a ehief post office is to be accorded by the league, and the secretary, Mr G. E. G. Rogers, was instructed to write to Mr E. L. Ciillen, M.P., endorsing the Chamber's proposals. A suggestion that the vacant space opposite the Oddiellows' Hall and adjoining the Railway Reserve be beautified, by allowing.the trees to form archways and having the grass properly cared for so that seats could be placed under the Bhade of the trees, was made by Mrs Hursthouse, and it was-decided to forward a copy of the letter to the JBorough Council with a recommendation that its Reserves Committee look into the matter.
An invitation to attend a demonstration by members of the Model Aeroplane Club.was received; and the secretary was instructed .to arrange for members of the league to attend a clubevening ext Wednesday. Referenc was made to the need for clearing and attending to the shrubs planted by the league along Karamu road; near the showgrounds, and the president dnd secretary' were appointed a committee to confer with the Borough Superintendent of Reserves, Mr J. G. [I. Mackenzie, regarding ihis matter md also about a rearrangement of some >f the shrubs.
