The band will lose heavily as the insurance on the equipment was only £370. The total damage done by the fire. will probably be over £2000, The room was on the top floor of a store and behind was T, W. Barrow's butcher sfiop. Many of ihe instroments wero found after the fire in their cEarred oases but are beyond xepdir as the heat has buckled them and destroyed their temper. The music, .worth at least £1000, although 'smoked can still- be read. "Major Miller, of the Grenadiejc Guards' Band, was positive that there was not a band south of the Line with such a library," eaid the Conductor, Captain W. S. King. "It is a magnificent collection."
