Definite Promise Given By Mr Savage

CHRISTCHURCH, This Bay. A definite issuranee that the Labour Government opposed conscription in all forms was given by the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage when a deputation from the National Peace CouncU waited on him this morning. The deputation asked that the compulsory clauses in the De* fence Act be repealed. Mr Savage said that there were a lot of Acts on tho statnte books for which the Goverament was not reaponsible and which would not be there much longer. Compulsory military service was one of those. The Goverament was opposed to conscription in n'l its forms.
