Borougn Jubilee. The holdiUg of the proposed combined Coronation and Borough Jubilee celebrationg in May next was mentioned at fche meeting of the Hastings and Dietrict Progress League on Thursday pight when tentative proposals were placed before the meeting. After a brief discussion, it was deoided that the secretary, Mr G, E. G. Rogers, should arrange for a meeting of tbe executive and the Hastings Borough Couneil to finalise matters with the objective of calling a public meeting to discuss the whole question. 2ZL At Napier. A party of juvenile entertainers under the direction of Aunt Gwen and TJncle Ed of the Station 2ZL children's radio circle, Hastings, „ visited Napier last evening and presented a fine programme of entertainment from the Sound Shell, on Marine Parade. Despite the chilly atmosphere, there was an excellent attendance and the programme was undoubtedly fully appreciated. A collection netted £15 13/1, of which half will go to the Hawke's Bay Children's Homes, and the balance to the children's party fund and the provision of a radio set for an invalid. Schooi Broadcast System. The installation of the radio and pttblic broadcast system in the Mahora Bchool has now been completed* Recent fcests were made and the whole system Was found to be most satisfactory. Loiid speakerB have been inBtalled in every room, and there are two micropbones installed, one being in the headfnaster's offce and the other for the use in the assembly quadrangle. Arrangements wero also made for tho extension of the system to include the schooi baths, and already this part of th6 system has been put into use With good results Napier Band at Hastings. To-morrow evening the Hastings pubtie will be entertaiued by the Napier Citizens' (1st. H.B. Regimental) Band ander the conductorship of Mr T. J. oollins. It is many years since the Napier band visited Hastings and in response to numerous requests this combination will fill the breaeb caused by the absence of the Hastings repie^entatives at the championship contest, and will render a varied prograramo in Queen's Square, commencing at 8.15 p.m. Included in the programme will be the exhibition quickstep marcb ' The B.B. and C.F.", the grand selecticn "Stephen Adams' Songs", the descripcive sketch "Swanee River Medley", a Scoteh. diversion ' Jam.e' , Patiol", and the contest marcb "T'.c Conqueror " It is hoped that tbe Hastings public will show their appreeiation hy turning out in large numb^xs. Recent restrictions imposed oii board-ing-houses .by the shorter working week and higher wagcs fox; employees have had a serious effect on many of the smaller boarding-houses in the cities, but enquiries made in Hastings to-day by a Herald-Tribune reporter failed to elicit any instances of boarding-houses closing down as a result of these cbanges Tbe reductxon from 15 to five of the number of boarders necessary to eonstitute a private hotel is generally blamed for the closing of many of the smaller houses in the cities, but in Hastings, where the majority of fche boarding-houses have always carried 15 or more boarders, the only effeofc of the higher wages and shorter hours is that more staff has been engaged. The increased costs have, ojc course, necessitated a rise in. tbe amount charged to the boarders.
