School Excursion. At a special meeting of the Waipukurau School Committee it was decidod to hold the annual excursion to Napier on March 10. In Napier the children will compete for their swimming certiiicates. The excursion train will leave at about 8^20 a.m. and will depart from Napier at about 5.20 p.m. Waipukurau Lodge. The fortnightly meeting of Court Ruahine (A.O.F.) was presided over by Bro. D. R. Logan, C.R. Arrangoments were made for the cricket match during next week-end. A resolutioa wns paissed that on the nights that Court Lindsay (Juvenile Court) meets, Court Ruahine will mee.t at 8 o'clock and Court Lindsay at 7 o'clock. After supper members played ping-pong and bowls. Tavistock Lodge. At the fortnightly meeting of the Waiukurau Loyal Tavistock Lodge (Manchester Uddfellows), Bro. A. Johnston, P.G., as acting-N.G., presiding, the following delegatos were elccted to attend tho annual Hawke's Day Distriet Conference which is to be held in Waipukurau on March 17: Bros. A. C. Holms, P.D.G.M., P. E. Bollons, F.S., and J. Wharmby, P.G. Bro. G. Reg Cook, Distriet Grand Mast^r. will preside over the conference. Water Shortage. There has been a seriouS shortage of water this week iii Otane. On the bigher levels water was available until about 10 a.m. last Sunday, but eince then there has been none at all. This is causing considerable inconvenience. Some time ago a special committee was appointed by the conncil to inveBtigate the position ,but so far it has reported no progress. . . Shops Will Not Close. A meeting of the Waipawa Retailers' Committee held yesterday morning decided that shops would not close on Friday next, the ' occasion of the annual school excursion. There were present Messrs F. M. Ticknef (chair), F. Eagle, J. Barker, G. Knobloch, A. E. King and W. J. Harris. The chairman intimated that efforts had been made to hold the excursion on Wednesday next to accord with the request made by the shopkeepers last year, but the school committee had been unable to make the necessary arrangements. It was pointed out tbat the excursion could have been held either last Wednesday or the previous week Croquet to Waipukurau, The second match in the B grade contests between the Waipawa and Waipukurau croquet clubs, played on the Waipukurau courts, resulted in a win for Waipukurau with 67 points to Waipawa 's 55. The players were: Waipawa., Miss B. Dailey and Mrs R. Tod, Me'sdames King and Parkin; Waipukurau, Mesdames Brassel and Taylor, 'Mesdames Hindmand and Webb. The final match will be played on the Waipawa courts during next week. Bowls at Waipawa. In a further match for t!ie Brower Buttens played on the Waipawa Bowling green, the holders, Came and Parkin, defeated Holt and Kingston, 17 to 15. With one head to go, the score was 15 all, and ih the last head the holders secured two, thus retaining the trophy. Waipawa High School. Arrangements have now been completed for tho holding of the Waipawa Distriet High School 's annual excursion to Napier on Friday. As in past years the Otane, Tikokino and Ongaonga sehoois. will co-operate with the local committee.
