Waipawa Bowls, Although the weather was fine a strong wind made play on the Waipawa bowling green very unpieasant yosterday aiternoou, only one rink being occupied. The fortnightly lueeting . of • Court Lattleiohn A.UJiY was held at Ongaonga last evening, C.K. Bro. H. Dunkiu plesifling' ovei; some' 30 members. Visitors were present from Court Ruahine (Waipukurau), and the District C.H. Bro. Kinsiey and the district' officera were in attendance. Past C.lt. Bro. H. Tuohy, now resident in Woodville, was present at the special request of the lodge. live new members .were initiatcd' by the District Chief Banger and his olficers. One candidate was proposed for membership.- An outline of the business at the recent district conference' was grven by the di-strict secretary, who congratulated the lodge on the progress it' was niaking. At . the conclusion of business, a social hour was held, supper being eerved by . the . ladies. Waipukurau Rate*. Of . the rates levied- by the Waipukurau Borough Council 95.5 per cent, have escaped. the 10 per cent. imposition that came into force l&st Tuesday. "Flag" 500Nearly twiee as many people as last week attended the "flag" 500 tournament in the Fire. Brigade Hall. Tho funda were again devoted toward supplementing the Waipukurau Fire Brigade team's travelling expenses to! Nelson to compete in the demonstrations there next month. Mr and Mrs E. Mc"Le(an and Mr and Mrs P. Meredith wPn the tournament. Supper was served by members of the brigade. Mrs McLean and Mrs Meredith made donations to brigade funds.
