Mr Cady said tbere were tliree major champiouship divisions, the inter-scholastic, the inter-eoliegiate and the national championships. Aspirants for tities in the first two divisions were placed in' two classes, according to their ability, but they were not permitted to compete for more than two championships. Swimmers of any agie were ebgiole fot the national championships, yet, even with these there was a liinit of three events. These restrictions, added A!r Cady, stimulated competition, encouraged speoialisation and tended to provent overstrain.
