CHRISTCHUEOH, Last Nightr Labour lost one aeat in a by-eloction. to-day for two seats on the Christchurch Drainage Board. A by-eleetion was held to fill vacancies caused by the refirement of Trustees T. H. Butterfield nd G. H. Winter, who had lost resi- ; leutial qualification. The voting was •s follows:— , Heathcote District: Miss M. Howard ..Labour) 530 votes, W. S. Grigg 404 otes. Central South-west District: E. H. S'. damilton 175 votes, S. M." Clinch (Labour) 91 votes. Miss Howard is a daughter of Mr. E. J. Howard, M.P., and is the first. woman electcd to the board.
