A, Lee, Parliamentary Under-Secretary to tbe Minister of Finance. The Attomey-General, Hon. H. G. R. Mason outlined wbat was being done in respect of mortgage adjustmenti under tbe new! legislation. "As to bousing," Mr Savage to marked, "the caucus expressed keea ap* preciation of tbe work that bad been done and is being carried on. Membors were satisfied tbat a good type Of house was being provided and tbat tbe most economic methods bad been adopted. If " is gatbered that within a f ew weeks, constmction will be going forward on tbe initial scbemes for Wellington and Auckland. Some 375 bouses are to be built in tbe Hutt district and 212 at Orakei. It is expected, in official eireles, that next week plans for tbe erection of 50-bouses in Cbristcbnrcb wiU be in band. A scheme for Dunedin Will • quickly follow.- After the initial stages, cpnstruction will be accelerated in various centres of population and ultimately between 2000 and 3000 bouses *511 be let. by tbe State to workers witb not more tban £6 a week."
