Suggested UseFor Site of Crystal Palace
LONDON, Jan. 14. Thousands of suggestions have been made for the future use of the Crystal Palace eite. What may be regarded aa the first official suggestion ,was made by one of the Palace trustees, Mr W. C. Watling. Speaking at the annual meeting oi the trustees at London. Guildhall, he expressed the hope that the Governsnent would help to" build a new and beautiful building. It should include, he said, an edueational centre, and provision for •ports, such as tennis courts^ an indoor bowling centre, a swimmmg pool, •quash rackets court, a dance hall, restaurant, cinemas a banquetting hall and an Empire show room. "We should make a Wimbledon oi Crystal Palace," were his words. Sir Henry Buckland, general manager of the Palace, said the debria •hould realise quite a good price. Tenders for the sale and for the clearance of the site were ready, He also mentioned that the Palace ineome from 1920 to 1936 totalled £1,355,447, and that during that time 15,819.831 people passej through the turnstiles. «
