WAIPUKURAU, Last Night. The monthly meeting of the Waipawa Hositpal Board was held • to-day. Present: — Messrs. W.. H. .ltatkbqne (chairman), H. W. White, L. Glenny. B. J. Atkins, N. J. Eawthorn, 1). Eddy, W. Matthews, ■ T. P, Hunter, ahd R. A. Fraser. Dr. P. O. Andrews,. medical superintendent of the Pukeora Sanatorium, Dr. W,. B. Eisher, medical superintendent . of the Waipukurau Hospital, and Mr * P, . R. Smyrk, manager-secretary, were also present. A copy of a letjer from the«Pepartment of Health to the Hawke's Bay Hospital Board was received, advising that the Department was of the opinion that the jolnt Park Island committeo should continue with the present agreement, as it represented a mutual saving and would also facilitate . the renewal of the home when rebuilding became necessary. The chairman said thht the Waipawa Board was quite prepared t.o renew the present agreement or. to attend a conference and discuss the question with .the. ojther boards concerned. The matter was left in the hands of the Park Island committee of the board with power to aefe. A letter of thanks and appreciation of the services of the medical and nursing staff to his neice, JMiss Coila Kerr, during her long illness in • tha Waipukurau Hospital, was received from Mr A. Rood. The chairman re* marked that Miss Kerr had been - a patient of the hospital for one of the longest periods the board had known,. she having been an'inmate for 12-years. The medical superintendent reported as follows for the month of December: Numb'er of patients jn at last.retuni, 34 maies,. 32 femalesj admitted during the month 56 and 42 j diseharged during the month 58 and 47; died during the month, ,4 and 3 ; remaining at end of month j- 30 and SQ. The Matron (Miss L. Bridge) of the Rathbone Maternity Home, reported for the months of December and' January ag follows:— There .w.ere 12 babies born during the. month of DeCember. Fees collected for the month amounted to £55 17/4. There were nine babies born. during the month of January. The Finance committee of the Board reported . as follows : — That -altbough plans and spedficat johs havo been received ■ for remodelljpg work . to - hoUBe additibnal staff in accordauce with' the decisions - o£ the board arising out of last year's legislation, ihe - financial position will not permit of this Work being proceeded with pending finality of. the board's appljcation for a Govemment grant as outlined in the reporf of a deputation that, visited Wellington before Christmas. The board is of the opinion that no delegate' should be sent to this year's conference, particularly on score of expense. That in reply jbo a request from the Public Hospital Engineers' Association, jt is regretted that the board cannot see its .way clear -to. send the hospital and Pukeora engineers to .attend this year's conference.. . That arising out of further correspondence from th© Director-General of Health, the whole question of formulating- a policy and by-laws for the adoption of the community hospital system- in thisdistrict be deferred in the meantime. ThatDr. W. B. Fisher, (Hospital Medical Superinlendent) be granted annual leave to cbmmence from Mareh 2 :
