Death of Oldest Veteran of Great War

LONDON, Jan. 16. . Mr Getarge Ash, believcd to be tho oldest veteran of the Great War, died at Plymoutii to-dajr at the age of 85.

In 1914, when he was 63, h« sthted that his age was 40 and joined the Army as a recruit— although he had been an Army pensioner for 27 years — and served in Egypt, rising to the rank of sergeant. He had previously -served ia the Zulq War of 1879 and the Egypiiin Wdr oi 1882, receiving the Egyptian Medii ahd the Khedive Star. His earlier career was with the Royal Marines.
