A Band Suggestion

A MUSIC

LOVER

(To the Editor) ' Sir, — In your issue of tsaturday last the fact of his Worship the Mayor and others ncit being present whea the band left on Eriday night was unfortunate. Happjly, puite a, crowd of well-wishers roded up, ahd in the absence of the Mayor, Mr T. Fraser in a witty speech,. voiced the sentiments of those present, fchat the band would reiturn with ftirther honours from the South Island next Sunday. On Mr Fraser' s call thfde hfearty cheers were given as the bahd drove off. Perhaps the timo is Opporturie, if I may venture a suggestion. While the band is absent, would it be possible to instal a loud speaker 6n the elock tower from whieh musical iteins could be broadcast to suit various dates during the year. Let us make a start on March 17 wxth a programme of songs oi Ireland, taking our thoiights back to the green isle o'er the sea. How meniories would revive as we listened to the strains"of the "Wearing o' the Green", "THb Londonderry Air," dr juSt fancy promenading over the crossing in Heretaunga street to the lilt of "Shamus O'Brien". It would make Us long for (Jounty Kerry, Dublin, or Ballymoney. Trusting our w.orthy mayor will welcome the Hastings Band, on Stiriday next the tune of "See the Conquering Heroes Gome". — Yours, etc.,

Hastings, Foibruary 15, 1937.
