Charged with being £17 in arreara on a maintenance order in favour of his wife, George Neville Newman, of Dannevirke, labourer, appeared before Mr A. E. Bedford, J.P., in the Napier Magistrate's Court thia morning, and, on the application of Senior-Sergeant W. Pender, was remanded to appear before the Magistrate to-morrow. When the defendant asked for bail, the seniorsergeant stated that considerable difficulty had been experienced in loOating him. He had been arrested on warrant at Dannevirke. The seniof-ler- " geant therefore requeeted that bail should be eubstantial. Bail' was grafited for £50, with one security of £50. Children from six of the country . echools of Hawke's Bay will visit Napier next Wednesday on their combined annual excursion. The schools at Ash-ley-dinton, Takapau, Hatuma, Harakeke, Makotuku and Otawhao will all send a party of children to Napier, many of them being accompanied by their parents, and arrangements havebeen concluded by the Napier Borougl) Council and the Napier Thirty Thousand Club for the usual concessiona to the visitors in regard to free use of the baths, and the providing of free hof water, buns and milk. Competitiona will also be arranged in which the viaiI fo«D will participate.
