(Received 17, 8.45 MELBODRNE, Feb, 16. After making efforts throughout the night in ohoking dust and carbon monoxide fumes, rescue parties at Wonthaggi coalmine were unable to find more than two bodies, one of which was so terribly mutilated that it was identifiable only by a twistedv gold watch found in a pocket, The victim has been identifled as Harry Harper, aged 45. The other body is unrecognisable, Some members of the rescue party worked below fof 15 hours on end. "It's the next thing to hell that 1 can imaginV said one begrimed miner this morning. It is how believed that most of the remftining viotims were trapped further along the mile-long east drive into which the rescuers have how penetrated only flve hundred yards. It may take days to reach the bodies. A terrific explowion ocourred at 10 o'clock on Monday morning in No, 20 ehaft of the State coal mine at Wonthaggi, Twelve, posBibly 13, men were trapped in the mine 100 feet underground and there was little hope of rescue.
