AUCKLAND, Last Night. . Two women who embaxked on a shoplifting expedition after consuming a bottle of beer in a city hotel on Feb- f ruary 9 appeared before Mr W. R. ' MoKean, S.M., in the Police Court this morning, when they pleaded guilty. Ellen Barnes, aged 42, married, was 1 charged with the thef t of five frocks taken on three diffierent dates from the same shop, while Ida Norris, aged 33, a housemaid, admitted seven charges of theft from three different shops. The articles included froelm, a handbag, dressing gowns, a pair of gloves and a shepping bag. Deteetivo-Sergeant McHugh said that it appeared that the two women had beeil systematieally stealing and added that shoplifting in Auckland was lately becoming more prevalent. For the accused, Mr Meek said the women were not profesSional slioplifters. * _ Mrs Barnes was fined a total of £22 10/- and Norris £20.
