'P 1 » * Man Intoxicated in Charge of Motor-Truck "HAD AMPLE WARNING" Sentence of three weeks * imprisonment was imposed on Phillip Neil Partridge, aged 35, when he Was charged in ihe Hastings Conrt to-day with being intoxicated while in charge of a motor-vehicie. The accused was also difequalified from holding a licence fot the next two years. Sergeant Mclntosh stated that, following on a complaint, Constable Foot© intercepted the accused, who was driving' a light motor-trnck down Heretaunga street from Stortford Lodge in an erratie manner. A c&r following him was unable to pass. The accused was in an advanced state of intoxieation when arrested, and a doctor had givCn a certificate to this effect. The acCused waJe released on bail to obtain medical attention for his hand, but he did not appear and was arrested, again intoxicated. The accused had two previous convictions for the same offence, said the sergeant. v "I only drove a little from Stortford Lodge. As Soon as the policeman put his hand out I immediately stopped,'* Said the accused, who pleaded guilty. "Hastings is a busy town. A idb lowing driver could not pass you and you were in an advanced state of intoxication," said the Magistrate, Mr J. Miller. "You 've h&d ample warhing. I can't overlook this.
