SUCCESSFUL YEAR
Napier Horticultural Society ELECTION OF OFFICERS The annual meeting of the Napier Horticultural Society was held on Monday^ the president, Mr. C. D. Wilson, presiding over a large attendance. The annual report showed that the membership had increased from 185 to 285. Ten meetings of the execulive and sub-committees had been held during the year and lectures were held monthly. Throughout the year a competition was.. conducted each month for the best vase of flowers, and proved a most suceessful contest. Two shows were held during the year, there being over 500 entries at the chrysantEemum show, and over 750 entries at the rose show, jalthough, at the latter show, owing to severe frosts the rose section was smalb The society commenced the year with a credit .balance of £53, 12/11 and finished with a credit balance of £57 14/2. The report commentcd on the fact that ihe society now had a splendid •colleetiou of trophies for annual compotition. Excellent displays of native flora had beeu a feature of the society 's shows. S.pealdng to the report .Mr. Wilson aaid that members had entered iuto the various activities of the society with renewed interest and vigour. The great assistance the_y gave the exocutive had been refleeted in the suceess of the shows and meetings held, and in tlie isatisfactorv balance sheet. The loyal support and co-operation of all members, executive, sub-committees • and others had been responsible for the suceessful year just coneluded. The report and balance sheet wero adopted. Mr. G. W. Corner paid a woll-deserv-ed tribute to the splendid work done during the year by the president, and by the honorary isecretary, Mr. E. G. Wilson, and assistant honorary socretary, Mrs. R. The competition for best vase of flowers was won by A. Bain, who also gained third plaee, Mrs. E. Holi being second.
