STUDENT TEACHERS
Training in Technical Subjects NOMINATIONS INVITED The opportuniiy is to be glven to the Napier Boys' and Napier Girls ' High Schools to nbminate suitable persons for appointment as student teachers of technical subjects in combined schools. The Napier Secondary Education Board reached this decision at yesterday's meeting, when a resolution was adopted following consideration of advice from the Education Department to the effect that the department was prepared to accept nominations from suitable young peoplei . The allowance to be payable to successful nominees, the department added, was to be £70 a year, together with (in eligible cases) boarding allowance totalling £30 a year. "A nominee must not be a student at sehool," pointed out the secretary, Mr W. L. Dunn. "The object is to try to persuade more young people to become practical in technical instruction — to deal with subjects for which there is no provision in the Training Colleges. " Br. H. Berry: Bo we want them down at the Boys' High School here? Mr Dunn: It wouldn't hurt to have a few trained. I think the idea is quite a good one and should be referred to the principals of the two schools. I don't see why the Girls4 High School shouldn't have a student teacher for home science. We had a young fellow at Hastings who was exceptional at woodwork and he turned out to be a first-class man at his work. On the motion of Dr. Berry, the board adopted a resolution to the effect that the seheme should be referred to the two High School principals.
