WHITE AND GREEN NAPIER WEDDING
Pidgcon — Hill Gleaming silvery white and lily-of-the-valley green was the attractive colour scheme chosen by Miss Valerie Hill for herself and maids at her wedding last evening in St. John's Cathedral, Napier. The bride is tho only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Hill, Fitzroy road, Napier, and in the presence of a large assembly, she was marxied by the Rev. Dean Broeklehurst to Arthur William Clarence, son of Mr. and Mrs. Pidgeon, of Wellington. At 7 p.m. she entered the church escorted byv her father who gave her away. Yery beautiful was the model wedding gown of souple silvery white satin, the bodice fashioned with a high neckline slightly cowl draped and caught with a spray of orange blossom held by a silver leaf clip. Deep smocking decorated the long knife-pleated sleeves from shoulders and near the wristline, where a narrow plain band fitted and was trimmed with tiny loops and buttons. The moulded skirt fell in straight lines to the ground, a charming fullness being given below the kneeline by the insertion at intervals of four fan godets of knifepleated satin, each godet set into deep smocking. A belt of the satin defined the waistiine and was caught in front with a twin silver leaf clasp. The voluminous tulle veil was richly embroidered and fell as a |rain, It was Bimply draped from a plaited silver halo worn well back on her dark hair. Satin shoes overcovered with net were worn, and she carried a sheaf of white and flesh-pink roses, bouvardia and carnations arranged with fern and tied with silver ribbon. Two maids were in attendanee, the Misses Dorothea Norman (chief), and Marie Williams (Wanganui). They were gowned alike in lily-of-the-valley green georgette over underdresseB oi taffetas to tone. Fullness was given to the skirts by deep godets inset from a band of smocking. The bodices had ismocked shoulders which finished tbe cowl neckline and similar smocking finished the sleeves. Their waistbelts were of gold lame, and completing the . attractive ensemble were gold kid sandals, plaited gold ■ halos and bouquets of roses, gladioli and pom pom dahlias backed with autumn leaves and finished with gold lame ribbon. The duties of best man were carried out by Mr. Arthur Bull, and those of groomsman by Mr. Frank Hunt. Delightful bridal music was played by the organist, Mr. P. W. Tombs. After the ceremony close on 150 guests were entertained by the bride's parents at Blythe's tea rooms, where all the uauai toasts were honoured. The tables were prettily decorated to match the bridesmaids' frocks — green cloths bearing green bowls of golden gladioli. Yery novel place card holders were made from a silvered merryfchought or wishbone and appliqued bells, shoes or hearts decorated the cards. The three-tiered cake, iced in white and having silver favours, wa'3 surmounted with a silver vase of natural white flowers, and from this streamers of satin ribbon were draced to the cloth and caught with a tiny posy. Many guests later went to the bride's home for a social hour and to view the presenta. Mr. and Mrs. Hill received the guests in the lounge, the latter wearing a model gown of navy figured cloquo with overprinted white design| Inset was a vestee of frilled white Valeneiennes lace and fine shirring trimmed shoulders and sleeves. Her long coat of navy silk marocain had a pleated finish on theroll collar and in the lapel wa)s pinned a white floral spray, a smart navy Bangkok hat was worn with a trail of small white gardenias in front. Navy shoes toned, and she carried a bouquet of red roses and carnations veiled in fern. Mr. and Mrs. Pidgeon will make their home in Wellington. They were the recipients of numerous choice gifts for their new home. The bridal pair are motoring south and on her departure, Ms. Pidgeon wore an American model ensemble, the ffock of navy ribbod marocain relieved with split collar of white suede pique finished with large green crystal buttons. With it was worn a smart navy and white check swagger coat, navy Bangkok hat with white brim and navy accessories. •Miss Mildred Newcombe, J.P. (Wanganui), aunt of the bride, was wearing a model frock of tete de negre and beige figured crepe de chine. The beige vestee was finished with an amber crystal and silver filigree brooch. Her hat was brown to tone, finished with ribbon and clip in gilt and brown, and she carried a bouquet of autumntinted flowers.
