N.Z 'S RESPONSIBILITY
Don't Let Country Down "While overceas I frequently noticed residents of New Zealand writing letters to the papers, in which they deprecated the policies, and som6times the praetices, of the Dominion,." declared Professor W. Riddet, director oi the Dairy Research Institute of Massey College, on his retuxn to Palmerston North yesterday from a trip abroad. "It is a grave mistake," he deplared. "The people reading these popular journals are only' too ready to take up these matters to the detriment of the Dominion. The subjeets raised are often controversial matters, and those of an opposita view who would like to reply ' often have no opportunity of doing so." There was a great deal of good being done New Zealand by steady affvertising of the Dominion 's attraetions, but even further outlay could be made with advantage in this direetion. Professor Riddet paid tribute to the resident New Zealand Trade Commissionors in various countries. He made contact with them whenever possibie, and declared that any New Zealander abroad who failed to do so was losing a good opportunity. These men made many invaluable contacts, and were highly respected in the communities where they were established. Wlrether travelling for pleasure or attempting to obtain an opening in a new quarte'r, the wise New Zealander would not forge' his trade commissioner.
