DIPLOMAS PRESENTED
Chamber oi. Commerce Examinees HASTINGS SUCCESSES Succestsful Hastings candidates at the recent Associated Chambcrs of Commerce examinations on business subjects were presented with their diplomas at last night's meeting of the Hastings Chamber of Commerce,, the vice-preteident, Mr W. E. Bate, acting in the unavoidable absence of the president, Mr H. W. C. Baird. Mr Bate read a letter from the president, Mr H. W. C. Baird. apologising for his absence and congratulating the ( successful candidates, who, he said, were a credit to Hastings. Mr Bate, on behali' of the Chamber, conveyed congratulations to the candidates on the striking succeBs achieved by them. Hastings had the very marked distinction of having among the successful candidates Miss Beatrice Keid, who was first in hand- writing and business writing, and second in senior typewriting with hononrs for the Dominion, for which she was to receive two medallions. This was a striking success, as only 12 medallions were issued for the Dominion,. - "We hope this will stimulate otbers to similar success," said • Mr Bate. "The tests are not by any means light ones, as it is our deisire to make the Chamber of Commerce examinations a test so that the holders of certificates will be stamped as efficient and industrious workers." Mr Bate urged all Chamber of Commerce members and business men, when requiring staff members, to give pref erence to successful Chamber of Commerce candidates. "If any applicant. comes along with a diploma. the employer may be assured that the applicant has passed a stiff test," 'concluded Mr Bate. Mr Bate then presented the diplomas and medallions to the successful candidates.
