Car Overturns After Striking Truck HASTINGS MAN UNHURT

MASTERTON, Last Night. Mr. and Mrs. L. W. Sharman, of Masterton, were killed late this afternoon, when the motor-car in which they were proceeding to Palmerston North, driven by Mr. Sharman, collided on the Mount Bruce road with a motor-truck driven by Mr. Raymond Cedric Bushby, fruit merchant, of Hastings. Messrs. B. Waters and C. H. Howes, both of Masterton, who were passengers in the rear seat of Mr. Sharman 's car, were seriously injured. They were taken to the Masterton Public Hospital, where Mr. Howes died at 10.20 p.m. Mr. and Mrs. Sharman leave a daughter aged about eight. Mr. Sharman was a cycle dealer by oecupation. Mr. Bushby was driving along the Mount Bruce road at 5.45 p.m. to-day toward Masterton. He was commencing the turn into a long bend in.the road about a quarter of a mile from Mr. D. McLachlan's place, when Mr. Sharman 's car approached and collided with the centre right-hand side of the truck, The car overturned several times and came to rest at right-angles across the road. Mr. Bushby, who was not hurt. found Mr. Shadman dead on the road and Mrs. Sharman apparently still alive in the front seat. Messrs. Waters and Howes were in the rear seat apparently badly hurt. Dr. J. i C. Forsyth and Constable M. Eoche proceeded to the accident, where the.v found both Mr. and Mrs. Sharman dead and Messrs. Waters and Howes suffering from head and other injuries. The Masterton police, under Sergeant T. H. Dyer, are investigating the circumstances of the accident.
