The Minister of Education officially opened the programme. The weather to-day was also cold with rain but little wind. Second heat: New Plymouth Old Boys and Lyall Bay, who xeache'd home first with fastest time, were disqualified for the patient going to the wrong buoy. Scott (Australia) won the event in 4mln. 39$ec., followed at close intervals by three other Australians, J. Millar, J. King and A. Hart. The first New Zealander to leave the surf and race up the beach to the tape was Pelham who finished in i fifth position. Then came B. Hodgson i (Australia).
