BAND GOES TO CONTEST

Confusion Over Time Of Departure CIVIC FUNCTION LAPSES The Hastings Citizens' Band left last night for Wellington en route to Nelson to take part in the annual bands championship contest. Just when the band departed by its specially commissioned bu's is not known, and quite a number of well-meaning citizens and supporters of the band were disappointed % last night in missing the departure and the opportnnity of wishing the band every success at the contest. Several members of the Hastings Borough Council, as well as a number of leading citizens, were to be seen driving round from the bandroom in Warren street to the Post Office, down Qneen street and along to the bandroom again shortly before 10 o'clock, and later before 11 o'clock, there being some confusion as to the time of the band's departure. Apparently the band left much earlier in the evening, for no sign was seen of any of the bandsmen, and in consequence there was no "civic farewell. ' ' However, the intention was there, and it now remains for the band to rettirn and receive a warm reeeptiou. It is expected that the band will be returning to-morrow (Sunday) week, arrangements having been made for the journey from Nelson to Hastings to be made without more than a few hours' break in Wellington.
