Hastings Parks and "HalidayMakers MOTOR-CAMP RECORD The parks generally in Hastings have, proved to be most popular resorts for both citizens and visitors during. th,e holiday season, report.ed the borough superintendent of reserves, Mr. J. G. C. Mack'enzie, at the meeting of the Hastings, Borough Couneil last evening. He had, several sngges* tiona to. ntake regarding improving the facilities at the different parks in ! Hastings. In spite of the unfavourable weather, he pointed out, the past holiday season' had been the most successful in the history of the Windsor Park motoreamp. . Puring the past two .months, some 574 parties, comprising 2300 per sons, had caxnped at the park, and of this number 166 parties had stayed for at least obq week. The eamp fees for the two months totalled £171 3/-, this being £57 12/above the fees for the corresponding .period twelve months ago, In the meantime, however, the fees had been igcreased, and this aecpunted for £20 of the surpluB. The canoes cont|nne ta be a good source of reyenue, for during the period under review £33 Q/6. was collected from th© hiring of them. This sum, would have been much lqrger, Mr Mad" dison said, had there been mere canoes available. He pointed qut also that the cost of keeping the canoes in repair wasi go% a heavy item, and he suggested that the present fleet- should be replaeed by stronger boats beforp ne^t season. Referring to the acts of vandalism already -reported at Victor-ia Square, Mr Mackenzfe, pointed out that this arga, which is planned as an open space and rest park, s.ervea as a playground fqr several hundred children, Fqr th,Q want of other playthings, lie said, the children play in the trees and shrubs, which, of courge, resqlts in hrekCU branches and general damage to Ihe reserve. 111 There is need for a properly-equip-ped children 's playground for this part of the town, he "mad, '"dnd I recommend that such a playground he esfablished as soon as praeticable. As gar-ded the suggestion of a playground in Vietoria %iuqie, the CQmiUittee re* eommonded that tbe matter shonld be , deferred for consideration witb next ' vear'p estimates. On tbe reeonnnpndatioi) of tho reserves eomm\ttee it was decided tliat upon the completion qf the new ontqncq to Windsor pqrk stq.ne seafs, should be c-Qustx'uctod in YictQvia Square and that more tables and seats should be erected in Windsor Park.
