Mr Kelly's Proposal Before Borough Couneil FURTHER FACTS WANTED Further mention of Mr. Oeo. Kelly 's proposal that a, footbridge should be erected a.l.ongside the bridge to carry the borough sewer mains over the Karamu Creek and so alford the settlers in that distriet better facilities for reaching town was made at the meeting of the Hastings Borough Couneil last night, but no action was taken pending further information from those bodies and persons interested in the proposal. The borough engineer, Mr C., E. Evans, m: a repoirt ou the suggeatlon, said that a, suitable foundation for the extra lo.ad due to the foottbridge would probably' be secured when the piles for the sewer bridge had beeu driven, but it would ,be necessary to extend the piles on "b-eams so thiat the back of the foottbridge would' be at least aa high as the deeking of the railway bridge. Provision - would also require to be made for the. plaeing- of bolts in th# top 3,ft. of the piles to carry the extensiOn. This work would need to be carried out when the concrete beams kwere being placed in position to earry the pipes. Minor- alterations would also be required to the pipe roda holding the. pipes to girders.
