Workmen engaged in demolishiug, jslum houses to make way for workmen' s flats in a poor quarter of Capetown had a thrill straight out of an old-fashioned spy story. Under the boards of a tumbledowu house they found two small bottles. One workman pulled out a cork and sniffed at the neck of the bottle. He quietly went to sleep, Bpilling the contents of the bottle over his clothes. His compauion rushed up to help him. In bendiug over the doped man he sniffed at the spilt liquid. He, too, went to sleep. It took an hour to bring them round. It is thought that the anaesthetic was a relic of the days when that quarter of Capetown was a notorious crime area, to which sailors were often lured at night, drugged and robbed.
