GAY SCENE AT REGIMENTAL BALL IN WAIPUKURAU

The Waipukurau Munieipal Theatre presented a very gay scene on Wednesday evening when the 1st Battalion of the Wellington Eegiment, in camp at the Waipukurau .racecourse, held their regimental dance. The ■smartly-eut scarlet jackets worn by the officera of the regiment mingling with the pretty frocks worn. made a colourful scene. The large number present spent a most enjoyable evening, dancing to excel-1-ent music supplied by the Kegimenta! dance orchestra, the players lookiug very smart in their scalet unifoms. Pipers' Cpl. McDonald, I. Vartha and Sgt. Drummer Carbin, piped the supper extras. Capt. C. D. Bryson and C.S.M. Paton carried out their duties as M.C. 's in a most eapable manner. A choice supper was served at tho baek of the stage, where the long tables were centred with summer blooms. The Monte Carlo waltz was won ,by Miss Muir and partner. Among the officers present were Lieut.-Colonel P. H. Bell, 1 D.S.O., N.Z.S.C., General Staff Officer, Central Military Copimand; Major-General Solly l lood, C.B., C.M.G., D.S.O., a visiting officer of the British Army; Major E. M. Andrew, V.C., N.Z.S.C., Adjutant of 1st Battalion the Wellington Eegiment, Capt. A. B. Eoss, Capt. K. J. Wells, Capt. E. L. McKenzie, Capt. E. T. W. . Love, Capt. C. D. Bryson, Capt. G. H. Wilkins, water-lily green eheck taffeta, the shirred corsage bow finished with a diamante clasp. Mrs V. Bradley, trained' gown in black and silver velvet, with a handsome square buckle of brilliants at the waistline. Mrs F. A. G. Dunn, parma violet georgette gown, having shoulder strap and swathed sash in a deeper shade. Mrs N. Tate, mulberry lace over a rose pink satin foundation having narrow flared sleeves and a pink spray. Mrs J. White, dark blue crepe de chene, the skirt prettily shirred with a bow at the back, lined with silver lame. Mrs C. Williams, turquoise Blue lace *with a big pink rose on shoulder and a diamante buckle at waistline. Mrs W. Walker, black erepe de chene, having flared sleevelets, and worn with a floral- scarf. .. Miss D. Beachen, amythest lace over satin, the trained skirt smartly fashioned with narrow elongated frills. Miss Shirley Clay, cream satin flowered in multi-coloured field flowers 3»id sashed in cherry taffeta. Miss Jean Marshall, midnight b!uo and silver threaded suede crepe wFth. folds of material faced with silver lame, coming from the shoulders and tied in a bow at the back. Miss F. Molonev, forest green crinkled crepe, the gold lame yoke finished with big green buttons. Miss Esther Ganderton, carnation pink crinkled crepe, the prettily shirred sleeves caught with pale pink boue clasp and a swathed belt in pale pink satin. Miss Doris Thompson, white crepe de chene, closely patterned in cherrv and green. Miss B. Tinnoy, flame ripple crepe, having short puffed sleeves and a wide silver belt. Miss Phyllis Hammond1 (Marton), rose pink satin and net having very full sleeves of net. Miss Fitzgerald, smartly cut gown in multi-coloured floral satiu. Miss Miller, salmon pink suede crepe with touches of black on the corsage and skirt. Miss Molly Jamieson, black georgette and lace, the rounded neckline finished with diamante clasp. Miss Muriel Goodeve, pale pink floral crinkled georgette over rose pink satin, prettily shirred at the waistline, with small silver buttons from nock to waistline at back of corsage. Miss Muriel Paget, while and black plaid taffeta with narrow frills in corsage aud skirt. Miss E. Paget, blajk chiffon velvet, with a xound diamante buckle at back of corsage. Miss Hope-Gibbons (Wellington), pale salmon pink flowered georgette, having narrow- frills from knee to hemline, and deep . blue velvet belt. Miss -Jean Fowler, smartly cut skirt in black velvet, worn with a gold lame jaGket. . . Miss Alma . Adams, rose. pink velvet with folds. of silver lame flnishtng tho neckline. Miss j. Findlay, duek egg blue phantom crepe, having a draped skirt and the off-shoulder ' neckline" having floral shoulder strap. Miss Euth Hepburn, deep mauve crinkled crepe, the back of corsage laced with gold and a mauve aud gold plaited girdle.' Miss Betty Brycp, gold lame gown, the square cut. yokp finished with gold buttons. 'Miss M. Fryer, pale pink hailstone silk net, with a foundation of pink satin, having a very full skirt. Miss E. Wood, liine green crepe de chene, the. .sleeves prettily shirred. Miss Dorothy Murray, ice blue embossed lace, having a very full skirt Miss Clara Fleming, gowned in black lace, having a . long pleated silver girdle. Miss Alma Davis, slimly fittiug frock iu .white ripple crepe, havirtg narrow drop sleevelets. Miss G. Coughlan, bluebell crepe de chene, the skirt prettily flared. Miss Merl Wills, saxe blue georgette with narrow frills at hemline, and a blue taffeta sash, silver head-band. Miss E. Kyle, coral pink georgette, the skirt inset with wide panels of lace. Miss G. Grover, old gold metal satin, the smartly shirred sleeves finished with a violet posy. _ Miss Jean Fowler, pale green and pink floral organdie, the full skirt inset with panels of green organdie.
