They Detained the Vicar
k m » m >J L How a vicar was inadvertently detained during a betting raid was told at Broxton (Cheshire). Police officers raided the village post office at Hargrave on the day of tho Cambridgeshire. While they made a search, all the callers, including the Vicar of Hargrave, Rev. S. G. A. Preston, and the village schoolmistress, were detained. Sergeant Kettle said that while the search was in progress six children were detained. The schoolmistress came to take' them back to school and she was detained. Later the Vicar arrived to see what was happening, and he was also detained. . A charge of using the premises for the purpose of betting against Miss Louisa Madley, the post; mistress, was dismissed.
