-Press ABSociation.)

Cricket With Country Team af Palmerston North

QUICK SC0RING RATE

(By Telegraph-

PALMERSTON N. Last Night. The match between the Wellington Plunket Shield team and the eleven drawn from the country districts was commeuced at the Sportsground to-day, and when stumps were drawn at 6 p.m. the country t«am, in reply to Wellington' s first innmgs total of 296, had lost two wickets for 71. The weather, except for showers about the time of the tea adjournment, was fine though dull and threatening, and the outfield was damp and slow as a result of rain during the morning. There was a fairsized gallery of spectators, and entbusiasts were treated to some very bright cricket in whicb the scoring rate was much better than a jjjii-a-minute. O'Brien, a Hawke's iiay player in the Wellington Shield team, who was aggressive from the start, went early, snicking one to the safe hands of Reaney, also a Hawke's Bay player, at iecond slip. Reaney was also responsible for getting Tindill out; at 80 Tindill snicked a kicking ball just outside the off stump and Reaney snapped up a nice catch. Johnson, the other player from Hawke's Bay in the Country team, ehded Ell's career, a good length ball xorcing the batsman back on his wicket. Scores ; , WELLINGTON. First Innings.
