DUNEDIN, This Day. Fairly heavy showers fell during last night but the rain was not of sufficient quantity to affec't the tracks at Wingatui. The morning broke fine, but about an hour after daylight rain . sei in again and did not clear until inost of the training operations had finished. HaHwTotej who will be a starter- in * the Publicans ' Handicap, beat Trumpet Blast easily over five furlongs in 1.8-2-5, Palymra. ran away from Tunneller and Rebel Lad over tihe last three furlongs of a seven-f urlong gallop and recorded 1.33. Palmyra ran the first three furlongs in 37 3-5secs., and hers was a very fine « effort which should hring her into f avour. . Natty easily held Green Boa at the! end of three furlongs in 45secs., but neither was asked to show his best. Forecast sprinted home down the straight strongly. Knockfin, who show ed socne reluctitnce to go on the track, reeled off six furlongs in 1.21 3-5. Look Smart was sent nearly a mile, the last seven furlongs taking 1.43 2-5,. Barley Almbnd sprinted attractively over half a mile- Recollection ran five furlongs in 1.13 2-5 and looked as if he could have done much better. Royal Saxon (B. C. Shand) sehooled over three hurdles, jumping fast and well. He took 1.15 from the first to the third fences. Great Ecnpire finished a round at » steady pace by sprinting home over the last three furlongs. . .■ Fairway ran seven furlongs ro 1.38 secs. and appeared to be going well Within himself. Ashaway was on the course but was not stripped and, with his trainer up, jogged round on the inside .of the track twice. He looks well. Octane sprinted home the last three furlongs of a round at three-quarter pace in 45secs. . .. ' .
