COUNTY RATES

With five days remaining before the penalty is levied, 40 per cent of the total amount of rates struck by the Hawke's Bay Oounty Council has been paid in, over £22,000 having now been collected. At the final day, February 14, falls on a Sunday, the following Monday will be aliowed in which to pay. The volume of payinents has increased greatly over the last two days, both Monday and Tuesday bringing in well over £2000 each.
