COMING-OF-AGE DANCE HELD AT PORANGAHAU

To celebrate the Coming-of-age of their son, Jeffery, Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Renall held a most successful dance in tbfe Public Hall at Porangahau. More than two hundred guests were present. Mrs. Renall and her two daughters, Miss Renall and Miss Jane Renall were the hostesses. The hall presented a gay scene with its complement of happy, dancing couples taking part, during the evening, in the various spot, Monte Carlo and statue waltzes beneath a canopy of lycopodium, intertwined with red poppies anl balloons hanging frooi the ceiling and caught, in the centre, by a basket of flowers. On the stage, which was decorated with ferns and poppies, card tables were arranged for the nondancers. The supper tables, too, were prettily set out with bowls of orangecoloured flowers. Among the many fine presents received by Mr. Jeffery Renall w.as an inscribed leather suitcase from the resfdents of the Mangaorapa district, cheques and other useful gifts. Proposing the toast of Mr. Renall, Mr. G. Black expressed pleasure at being present on such a happy occasion, and, congratulating Mr. Renall on attaining his majority, he wished him many more years of happiness and prosperity. Mr. Black then presented Mr. Renall with a key, inscribed by □aany of his friends. The key, he said^ was symbolical of that love and care with which his mother and father had hitherto looked after him. "I now give you this key," he said, ' ' charging you with the responsibility of guarding your home and your honour throughout iife. ' ' On behalf of those present, Mr. Black thanked Mr. and Mrs. Renall for their hospitality. Mr. J. Renall suitably replied. Those responsible for the decorations included Mrs. Oonnell, Miss J. Renall and Messrs. B. Collin, P. Ryan, Wright, Cowis and Snelling. The music was provided by Te Tau's orchestra. Supper extras were supplied by Mrs. H. B. Dalby, Misses Peterson, Langeson, Ross and Mr. Sidwell. Among the guests present were: — Mr. and Mrs. Rumble, Mr. and Mrs. J. White, Mr. and Mrs. Nobles, Mr. M. Davidson, Mr. J.
