First Meeting With Order of St. John MALNUTRITION EVIL

WELLINGTON, Last Night. The first conference of the Joiat Council of the Red Cross and Order of St. John was held to-day, Mrs T. H. Lowry being in the chair. Mr Collesson, chairman of the Council, congratulated the society on the euccessful accomplishment of the merger and wished it good fortune'in the eneuing years. He strassed the imporfance of the society relyi'ng rather on its own efforts than on the Government. Mr L. 0. H. Tripp said he hoped that the two bodies would work together in hafmony. He felt that there was plenty of scope for the activities of the new body. Sister Bridges, of the Florenee Nightingale International Foundation, England, gave an account of work in the public health and various aspects of Red Cross activity in Europe and England. The alarniing incidenco of malnutrition in New Zealand was stressed by Sister B. J. Stringer. She said that after a visit to various schools she had discovered the malnutrition evil was mueh greater than people realised and in the nutrition field the Red Cross Society could do valuable work,-
