CAN BIG DOOK WIN AGAIN?

Poverty Bay Has Fair Fields REVIEW OF THE FORM (By 1 ' The Bar.b * ')' - - The summer • meeting of the' Poverty Bay Turf Club will be ' held' to-'fiiorroAv (Thursday) and Saturday on tli'e Park raceconrse which until a few years ,back was known as Te Hapara course. With the- exception of the' hurdl'Rs the first day's fields are quite up to the mark and should provide interesting contests. ■ Of the Hastings horses accepted for, Lady Wessex, on account of the poor form "she displayed at the Wairoa races will be an absentee. FIRST HURDLES Of £90; 1 mile. On his two showings at Wairoa, Jazz King is definitely on the down grade and, what is more, is turning sour, not isurprising after five or six years' racing when sore. Summerhill, a good jnmper and stayer, must be well fancied. Royal Mimie and' Holme Fell /have no form but may be capable of .putting up a figbri It looks as though the favourite will be SUMMERHILL. TELEGRAPH HACK HANDICAP Of £85; 7 furlongs. Gay Hunter has gone from 8.12 to 9.7, rather a severe penalty for his win at Wairoa on Saturday. Quaint, a poor traveller, is far .better on her home track, so should do better than when racing down this way at the beginning of the year. Fossicker di'3appointed the speculative public last Saturday, but, as he was nearly knock6d down, may be excused for that bad showing. Royal Minstrel, on his final gallop before leaving Hastings, must go well. Minnow is just an ordinary hack, as also is Happy Hunter. Tractile has been penalised 8 lbs for her last Thursday 's victory, but Ruinette, who won at the same meeting, escapes penalty. Of the " seven-seveners " Ua la, Flying Mimic and Royal Solo may do best. It is hard to see what will be better backed than ROYAL MINSTREL, FOSSICKER and GAY HUNTER. MAIDEN SCURRY Of £75; 5 furlongs. Of this big field the best may provo to be Joe Loui's, Hunting Step, Mahala, Shani and Asset The latter appeared a certain winner over a like distance at Wairoa when she ran right ofl the track at the straight entrance. ,'Perhaps most money will be invested on MAHALA, HUNTING STEP and ASSET SUNDERLAND STAKES Of £120; one mil« Big Dook has his job before him now with 10st., including a 51b. penalty for his Wairoa Cup. win. Howover, a mile is perhaps his best distance, so he will have a hest of admirers. In both hia races at Wairoa Legateo was tailing the field over the first six or seven furlongs and maybe roquires either a larger couTse or ' a longer distance. De Friend is not racing up to late winter form, but Lordly Knight will be supI ported. despite his - being past his best. Hunting Mars has gone up 71bs. for last Thursday 's victory, but 8.7 should soe him dangerous despite his fourth in a four-horse race on Saturday. A little surprising, Pennycomequick 'a win on Saturday did not influence the handicapper as she still remains on the 8.0 mark, though she beat a much better field than did Hunting Mars in the earlier race. Lucullus Lad, another Wairoa winner, haa also escaped a rise in weight, but his victory was a lucky one. Of the lighter weighted division Flying Mimic may be the best. Three that may appeal to backers are BIG DOOK, PENN Y COMEQUIOK and HUNTING MARS, SUMMER HACK HANDICAP Of £85; one mile On his showifig at Wairoa Small Boy j is not in the same form as when he ran second to Pennycomequick at Ellerslie, but Skyway ran so consistently well down this way over the holiday meetings that he looks like one to romember. Lucullus Lad here carrics 8.9, a 31b. penalty in a hack race for a win in open company — surely thcse re-handicaps for Wairoa wins are anything but consistent. Fossicker may not start, but Silver River will be there and will have to be taken into account. Of the other trio Wananga seems the best, but his best may not be good enough. Three that should not be without financial friends are SKYWAY, LUCULLUS LAD and SILVER RIVER.

FLYING HANDICAP Of £90; 6 furlongs. Mr E. Fitzgerald with De Friend and Golden Blonde holds a strong hand - -the latter at her last start was third io Francia Drake and Royal Chief in ehe Auckland Royal Stakes. Lordly Knight will be better suited by the distance than in the Sunderland Stakes. Black Thread, a hack, but still a good one. Gasman is racing unkndly, but Blygain is so consistently that she must be given an outside hope. The re-handicaps say that Hunting Mars has gone up to 8.9, so that it looks as if he had been inadvertently omitted from the telegraphed acceptance list. Heaviest investments may be made on GAY BLONDE, HUNTING MARS and BLACK THREAD. HARBOUR HANDICAP Of £85; 6 furlongs. Collision has not raced for cighieen months and in the interval has done two seasons at the stud. His bracket, Huntette, has been racing poorly. Quaint, Blygain and Brown Lap are a trio that go a merry six in company
