Strong Fields Engaged TO-MORROW'S PROSPECTS

Very good fields have aurvived the final payinents for the first day of tho Dunedin. Cup ineeting dated for tomorrow and Saturday. The first day tho Champagne Stakes and the Dunedin Cup are the most important ovents, aud on Saturday the Hazlett Gold Cup, run under w.f.a. conditions over a mile, viJ! be the iteni of most interest the crpp. The Dunedin Gup 1b oue of the oidest liandicap races in the Dominion for which many stirling contests have been staged and, judging by the field, another interestingi race appears ussured. Argentic is not the best handicap horse in the Dominion but he is one of the most consistent and,' to. add to his chance to-morrow he will be at his favourite distance. Queen- of Song, raceiving 61bs. from Argentic, must be given a bright chance after indicating a Teturn to form by Tunning prominently on Saturday at Kiccarton. Our three-year-olds this season do not appear up to standard^ so that, with 61bs.
above w.f.a., Wild Chase cannot appeal very strongly desp^te his being tho latest N.Z. Derby winner. Davolo haa been racmg very well, but so far eight to ten furlongs has been his best distance and he has yet to win over anything longer. Gay Circle has done all his best racing round Melbourne. McBeath has struck form this year, but he will have to be taken on trust ovet this distance. Tunneller was third in the Mellington Cup v/ith 51bs. less on his hack. Guarautee, a Paper Money, is not fancied over 12 furlongs. Most of the remainder are unknown quantitiea over the distance. Ashaway has, however, come into favour by virtue of attraetive track work THE SECOND LEG T*he Publicaus' Handicap is the second leg of the double.
