Rates Returning to Normal. Mr A J. Held wrote complaining that Middle road had not received fair treatment from the council. He pointed put that the rates had iuexeased considerably and that, despxte that, very little attention was being given to the road, whiefi ,was to bad order.— In regard to "Mr Feild's complaint about the rates, the clerk, Mr W. J. Q 'Connell, explained that the rates were considerably xedueed durtog the slump period in order to give farmers reljef and that the increases imposed of late were towards .restoririg the rates to their norma! level. Mr M- S. Chambers brbught fbrward a pctition jie had receive'd signed by ten settlers asking that more metalling be carried out or Middle road. It was pointed out to the council that a considerable amount of work had been carried out on Middle road, with the result that decided improvements had been niade. Any necessary metal repairs are to'be attended to. Notifieation was received adyiging that ffie Napier Park-Rissington road via Newstead had been" gazetted as a highway —Mr W.
